Box it up
Hard to decide. The original was a metal box which plugged into the guitar, no knobs, two internal preset pots. You can get a small metal box with two jack sockets and a 6" mini guitar lead/ double sided Jack Plug. This will fit into a Strat, unlike the original, but you might have to attach it to the guitarstrap. Sounds awkward.
A floor box with a stomp switch sounds good, with a single Volume Knob. A sustain control would be good, a knob or high/low switch.
