7. MOS Clean Power Booster
A clean guitar volume booster, puts out up to 8.8V peak-to-peak (according to my computer simulation), very high input impedance (about 5 Meg), low noise. I was looking at  FXBus 1 Module 1 - a Buffer/Gain/Booster Module at GEO, which goes through the standard 1-transistor volume boosters, and I got my IRF510 (from Radio Shack) preamp working properly. Current drain is about 3mA. It's easy to build, and it will always be useful for something.
This makes a good 1 or 2 knob "Clean Boost" pedal, and can easily make the input tube on your amp distort. It will add a little distortion of it's own if cranked. With a short guitar lead the high impedance input can give a subtle treble boost. It might be a little bright for an onboard preamp. I use it with my 1965 Gibson Skylark amp, which doesn't have much gain by itself.
Is this crude enough for MusicToyz?:
